TURBO GLOBAL at Schloss Britz, Berlin

The effects of ‘turbo capitalism’ in a specifically Irish context are the central theme at Schloss Britz, Berlin from June to October 2024. Ireland and the new capitalism in Europe are almost synonymous. In the period of the “Celtic Tiger”, the economic boom from the mid-1990s until the financial crisis around 2008, special efforts were made to attract corporate capital and restructure the economic situation. Today, the situation is again characterised by an upswing – but the social conflicts are intensifying.

Mariechen Danz and Michele Horrigan deal with globalised trade and interstate competition for resources. Among other things, they examine the consequences of interaction with the world market on the environment, health and identity. Sean Lynch and Niamh McCann reflect on Ireland’s mythical traditions and show conflicts as a consequence of economic development since the 19th century. Nevan Lahart questions the existing Western capitalist world view.
