What A Feeling!

Video (duration 3:30 minutes)
2014

In front of a video camera, in a field close to an industrial complex with chimney stacks divulging a steady stream of smoke, I glibly re-enacted elaborate dance scenes from the 1983 romantic drama Flashdance with its smash hit soundtrack ‘What a Feeling’ playing in the background. The heroine in the film works in a steel mill in Pittsburgh, while at night pursues her real dream of dancing.

My gesture is borne out of the disaffection of the individual against global flow and capital, and questions the role of the personal in relationship to the pervasiveness of industrialised manufacturing.
